- Scope and content:
- The fonds contains documents of the District Court in Postoloprty. There is no inventory entry regarding Jewish issues, but the collection of deeds for the land books contains records of transfers of lands of Jewish owners. Attention should also be paid to the inheritance agenda from 1850-95.
- Archival history:
- After the abolition of the Postoloprty Court in 1949, most of its agenda was transferred to the archives of the ministry of interior, and the remainder to the district court in Žatec. Over two years the documents were taken over by the regional archives in Litoměřice, where the fonds was appraised and arranged. In 1963 The arranged fonds was transferred to the district archives in Louny, which in 1970 also took over the collections of deeds for the land books from the district court in Louny. Three years later, the registry finding aids were also moved to Louny from the abolished court depository in Bilina. During the general inventory in 2001, a significant discrepancy was found between the fonds and the inventory, so in 2011 the fonds was rearranged and provided with a new finding aid. Since 2010 the collections of deeds for the land books have been stored in the Most branch of the state district archives in Litomeřice.
- Administrative/biographical history:
- The district court in Postoloprty started operating in 1850 and was based in the town hall. In the 1855 administrative reform the district judiciary and state administration merged to become the Bezirksamt (political and judicial district offices). Operation of the Bezirksamt in Postoloprty ended on August 31 1868, and on September 1 an independent district court began to function and judiciary was definitively separated from the political administration. During the Nazi occupation the district court functioned as the Amtsgericht. In 1945, it was re-established as a district court. Due to the state administration reform of 1949 it was abolished and its powers were taken over by the District Court in Žatec.
