Attention should also be paid to the electoral registers from the 1930s and electoral documents from 1851-1937.
- Archival history:
- The archive of the town of Podbořany was stored in the town hall until 1950 when it was moved to the rectory in Blšany. The documents were stored there until 1960 when the Podbořany state district archives were closed down, and all documents were transported to Louny where they are now stored in the state district archives. In 1965-66 the fonds was organised and a finding aid was created. Most of the writings were ordered chronologically, making them difficult to categorise, so in 2008 a rearrangement of the fonds was carried out and a new finding aid was created.
- Administrative/biographical history:
- The first record of Podbořany dates from 1369. In 1855 it became the seat of the Bezirksamt (political and judicial district office) of Podbořany and remained the district town until 1960. Jewish settlement was first recorded in the second half of the 18th century. From the 18th century the Jews of Podbořany belonged to the religious community based in the nearby town of Letov. In 1870 the community office was moved to Podbořany and the community was then called the Podbořany-Letov religious community and based in municipal house 201 in what is now Dvořákova Street, which also housed a two-room school first recorded in the late 19th century. In 1873-74 a synagogue was built, attached to the east side of the building. In 1938 the Nazis vandalised the interior of the Podbořany synagogue and the religious community was abolished.
