More information may be found in books concerning censuses and population data.
- Archival history:
- The documents of the town office of Hrádek were deposited in the office’s building, and after 1945 were included in the town archive stored partly at the office and partly in a private house. When the town archive ceased operation in 1962 the documents were transferred to the district archives in Liberec. The documents were made accessible through an associated inventory, together with documents of the guilds, the school board and committee, the institution for the poor, municipal enterprises, the savings bank, the financial guard and the police station.
- Administrative/biographical history:
- The first record of Hrádek nad Nisou dates from 1288, though the region was populated before this and the settlement was probably in existence from the 10th century. After the 13th century the German population began to dominate. Hrádek was a centre for the textile and chemical industries as the location of the Leitenberger factory and the Gummiwerke Grottau. During the Second World War the arms manufacturer Spreewerk operated a facility in the premises of the Leitenberger factory.
