Documents concerning Jewish history are stored under the following inventory numbers: inv. 145, box 6: Archbishopric, Bishopric, etc., also rabbis, Jewish religious communities (rabbis' offices) 1856-68; inv. 174, box 91: Jewish religious community, rabbis 1906-36. Jewish-related material may also be found under religious matters in general, census records and trade matters.
- Archival history:
- Under the Nazi occupation some of the documents originating from the activities of the political office of Frýdlant were handed over to the Reich archives in Liberec. After 1945 they were transferred to the state archives in Jablonec nad Nisou. The fonds was given to the district archives of Liberec in 1963. The second part of the documents, originated after 1945 was added to the fonds in the 1960s. Only a fragment of the files has been preserved. The fonds was arranged in 1965.
- Administrative/biographical history:
- Political authorities of the first instance in the Frýdlant region after 1850 changed their names and scope several times due to administrative reforms. The entire political district of Frýdlant was part of the Frýdlant estate before 1848. After this the administrative territory did not change significantly. The district was identical with the territory of the self-governing district, and for judicial and tax purposes it was divided into the districts of Frýdlant and Nové Město pod Smrkem. In 1938 the Landrat (councillor’s office) was established in place of the district office.
