- Scope and content:
- The fonds includes documents of the municipal self-government of Holešov since 1506. The registries of the municipality office and especially the pre-municipality office have considerable gaps, and what remains is primarily from after 1850. The Jewish political community of Holešov is mainly dealt with in the following documents: the cadastral statement of the town and of the Jewish community; the parcel protocol of the Jewish community; the merger of the town and the Jewish community of Holešov; and the antisemitic demonstrations of 1899 and 1918. In documents from the period of the Protectorate the Jewish population is mainly referenced in inventories of Jewish property.
- Archival history:
- The fonds was registered in the former district archives in Holešov in 1956. In 1966, it was made available through an inventory. It was later supplemented with unarranged acquisitions.
- Administrative/biographical history:
- The first record of a village named Holešovice (later Holešov) dates from 1131. In 1322 the village was promoted to town status and for centuries was the property of various noble families. The town was the seat of the district office from 1850-1942 and the district court from 1850-1960. Jews were probably present in Holešov from the late 14th century. In 1850 an independent Jewish political community arose there with its own administrative territory covering an area of 4.5 hectares. It was merged with the town community in 1919. There was a popular yeshiva until the 1860s. In 1945 the Jewish community was briefly restored.
