- Scope and content:
- The fonds includes documents of the political administration of the district of Holešov. The predominant part of the material dates from after 1900. For the Jewish political community of Holešov, census records (1857-90, 1910) and documents concerning anti-Jewish riots (1899, 1918) have been preserved. The fonds also includes documents concerning anti-Jewish measures and Jewish property and materials relating to the burning of the new synagogue in 1941. For a detailed search, one must use the original registry finding aids.
- Archival history:
- The fonds was taken over in the 1950s by the state archives in Uherské Hradiště, then transferred to the district archives of Kroměříž in Holešov in the early 1960s. The fonds was supplemented in the 1960s with acquisitions from the registry of the district national committee in Holešov. An inventory was created in 1968 and presidium files were catalogued in 1967-72.
- Administrative/biographical history:
- The Bezirkshauptmannschaft (district head office) in Holešov was established in 1850. In 1855-68 a Bezirksamt (political and judicial district office) district office worked in Holešov as a first-instance body of political and judicial administration. In 1868 the district marshal's office was restored with a reduced territorial scope, operating (with a changed name after the formation of Czechoslovakia) until 1942. In 1935 the Vizovice region was affiliated with the political district of Zlín. In 1942 the office was abolished and the territory of the district was divided under the administration of the district offices in Hranice and Kroměříž. The political district of Holešov was home to a political and religious Jewish community.
