- Scope and content:
- The fonds includes documents of the self-government of Horní Blatná. Jewish issues are related primarily to general instructions for the removal of Jews from German economic life (1940) and changes in land books in the form of resolutions of the district court in Horní Blatná, including a record of Czech and Jewish assets (1898-1941).
- Archival history:
- The documents of the archive of Horní Blatná were transferred to the district archives in Karlovy Vary in 1958. There were further additions to the fonds from 1972-2006.
- Administrative/biographical history:
- Horní Blatná was established after the discovery of huge deposits of tin ore (the mine of St Wolfgang) in 1532. At that time it belonged to the estate of Schwarzenberg in Saxony and was not attached to Bohemia until 1546. Until 1850 it belonged almost exclusively to the Loket region, and from 1850-62 to the region of Cheb. From 1850-1938 it was in the political district of Jáchymov, and during the Nazi Occupation in 1938-45 in the Landrat (District Councillor) Nejdek. A district court was also located in the town. The municipal office of Horní Blatná ceased to exist in 1945 after the end of the German occupation.
