- Archival history:
- The registry office of the municipal authority was well kept by the city secretaries. A smaller part of the fonds was taken to the district archives from the municipal museum in Nová Bystřice in 1951 and most of the documents were transferred during the appraisal proceedings in 1958. The fonds was partially arranged and an inventory list created in 1961. The inventory finding aid was established in 1991.
- Administrative/biographical history:
- The first written record of Bystřice dates from 1175. The town was a centre of its remote area, mainly for German citizens, with a developed textile industry. Nová Bystřice was a seat of offices of the judicial district. Administratively it belonged to the Beziskshauptmannschaft (district head office) of Jindřichův Hradec, Tábor region, from 1868-1938. In 1938 it became part of the Niederdonau Sudeten region. From 1939-45 it was the seat of the Landrat (district councillor) and Amtsgericht (district court). The first mentions of a Jewish presence in Nová Bystřice are from 1821. There was a Jewish school (established 1860), a Jewish cemetery (1878-79) and a synagogue (1899).
