- Archival history:
- The records in the fonds were kept in the offices of the municipal authority and the town hall. In 1953, 1955 and 1957 a thorough archival appraisal was conducted and the material was given to the district archives of Jablonec nad Nisou. A number of important documents, however, were not preserved, including meeting minutes of the local council and assembly. The fonds was processed and inventoried in 1970 and re-inventoried in 1993.
- Administrative/biographical history:
- Smržovka was founded in the first half of the 16th century, the earliest written reference dating from 1568. Originally it belonged to the domain of Semily, but from 1662-1848 it was the centre of the Smržovka domain, which was the seat of the manorial court from 1683. The political municipality of Smržovka was established in 1850 and developed during the 19th century, mainly as a result of the textile and glass industries. It became a market town in 1868 and received full town status in 1905. Administratively, it belonged to the judicial district of Tanvald and the political district of Jablonec nad Nisou. In 1938 and 1939-45 it was part of the Reichsgau Sudetenland (Sudeten region), Landrat Jablonec nad Nisou. The local Jewish population belonged to the Jewish religious community of Jablonec nad Nisou.
