- Archival history:
- The documents of the municipal office of Mašťov were originally stored at the town hall and were transferred in the mid-1950s to the newly established district archives in Kadaň. In 1958 the collection was transferred to the newly established district archives of Podbořany in Blšany. During the 1960 administrative reform the district of Podbořany was abolished and incorporated into the district of Louny. The documents of the defunct Podbořany district archives were taken over by the district archives of Louny. In 1962 they were transferred to the district archives of Chomutov in Kadaň (called the state district archives since 1992). The collection, also including the land registers from the Louny district archives, was arranged and inventoried in 1988-89.
- Administrative/biographical history:
- The village of Mašťov was first mentioned in 1196. Sometime before 1347 it was given the status of a town. In the 1780s a controlled municipality office was established in Mašťov and in 1849 it became an autonomous municipality, being incorporated in 1850 into the judicial district of Podbořany. A small Jewish community lived there and had its own cemetery.
