- The fonds comprises documents from the town of Veselí nad Moravou. For the study of Jewish history, the following files will be of particular interest: land registers from the 18th to 19th centuries and agenda of domestic law and population records or electoral records. Specifically, this involves the third war loan by the Jewish community from 1914-1933, and the fonds also contains files from associations, such as Mijam Verein 1924-1926, and private foundations from the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries, of which some apparently had Jewish founders (such as Kohn, Ornstein, Freund). From the Holocaust period, the fonds includes the following documents: Records of Jewish land from 1939, Administration of Jewish property 1941-1946, Jewish property and its leasing 1942-1945.
- Archival history:
- The documents were originally kept at the town hall and at the local palace, from where they were taken to the State District Archives in Hodonín on several occasions in the 1960s. The fonds was supplemented with items provided from the district national committee in Hodonín and the Moravian Provincial Archives. The fonds was arranged in 2008-2009.
- Administrative/biographical history:
-
The early settlements of Veselí nad Moravou (Wessely an der March in German), which developed around the castle, are believed to date from as early as the 11th century. The town became the centre of the manor, which until 1848 was owned by various noble houses. After 1848, it became an independent municipality. A separate Jewish political community existed there, and the municipality of Veselské předměstí, with which the town merged in 1919 to form Veselí nad Moravou.
Veselí nad Moravou belonged under these political districts: Uherské Hradiště from 1850 to 1855 and from 1868 to 1949, Uherský Ostroh in 1855-1868; and under the judicial district of Uherský Ostroh in 1850-1949.
