- Scope and content:
- The fonds contains archival materials of the political administration of the district of Děčín (the judicial districts of Benešov nad Ploučnicí, Česká Kamenice and Děčín). It includes sources for the history of the local Jewish communities from the end of the First Czechoslovak Republic (file No. VII / 25 - Jewish religious community 1937-1938) and other archival materials concerning the religious life of the Jewish population of the district (file group V., inventory numbers 318- 361 - rabbis and rabbis' offices, citizens’ religious affairs ordered alphabetically A-Z 1911-1924). The fonds also contains rich sources concerning Jewish business (trade, industry) in Group XI.
- Archival history:
- When the District Office Děčín was abolished, its registry remained in the building of the Landratsamt (the district councillor’s office), called the District National Committee Děčín after the Second World War. In the early 1950s there were first archival inspections but also "wild appraisals”. A fragment of the unarranged fonds of the District Office Děčín was transferred to the State Archives Litoměřice in 1956 and four years later taken to the District Archives Děčín. The fonds was arranged in 1968-1971. After the last general inspection the inventory was declared insufficient and work on a new arrangement was started. It was estimated to be completed in mid-2015.
- Administrative/biographical history:
- The District Office Děčín was established as the lowest unit of the newly organised political administration by an imperial decision taking effect on 1 February 1850. Despite some partial reforms the district office of Děčín existed until the German annexation of the Czech borderland in 1938. In October 1938 its activities were taken over by the Landratsamt (district councillor’s office).
