- Archival history:
- The fonds is part of the Municipal Archive of Český Krumlov which includes two more parts: the Mayor's Office 1347-1791 (1883), K-1, and the Municipality Office (1789) 1791- 1850 (1918). The Municipal Archive of Český Krumlov was originally stored at the town hall. In 1941 it was moved to the building No. 152 in Horní Street where it remained in the postwar years. In 1953 the documents of the Municipal Archive became the basis of the newly established District Archives in Český Krumlov. The fonds was arranged and inventoried in 1961-1963.
- Administrative/biographical history:
-
Jews began to settle sporadically in the Špičák suburb of Český Krumlov since the 1780s. The turning point was the social changes after 1848 when Jews became the full-fledged residents of the town. The Jewish religious community was not established in Český Krumlov until 1893. Until then, the Jews were recorded in the registers of the Jewish religious community of Rožmberk nad Vltavou. In 1921 the Jewish community of Český Krumlov had 120 members.
The Municipal Office of Český Krumlov started to operate in 1850. In the 1938 Munich Agreement, Český Krumlov became part of the territory annexed by the German Reich. Along with the majority of the South Bohemian border region it fell under the administration of Gau Oberdonau (Upper Danube Region) seated in Linz. In 1939 the town was included in the municipal Reich administration. In 1938, hostilities against the Jewish population escalated. Most of them had fled abroad or inland even prior to the Munich Agreement. Moving abroad saved the lives of the Spiro family and a few other persons. The property of Jewish families was confiscated after the Nazi annexation of the territory. The Municipal Office was abolished after the liberation of Czechoslovakia in May 1945 when the National Committee was established.
