- Scope and content:
- The fonds includes documents of the municipal self-government of Nové Hrady which was opposed to the settling of Jews in the town. There are two remarkable particulars concerning the history of Jews: 1) A complaint of the municipality submitted in 1813 to the Regional Office against the Nové Hrady manorial authority that wanted to settle a Jewish businessman in the town and allow him to produce alcohol; 2) A joint agreement of Nové Hrady burghers from 17 June 1851 that no Jew was allowed to buy real estate or to operate a business (the agreement was signed by 66 out of 160 burghers in order to avoid the repetition of a previous case when two Nové Hrady burghers had made a lease contract with the Jews Schüller and Steiner).
- Archival history:
- The fonds resulted from activities of the municipal self-government of Nové Hrady which was mostly in German hands until 1945. In the 1950s, the fonds was transferred to the District Archives in České Budějovice, being arranged in the spring of 1962. Due to some irregularities and new acquisitions, a new arrangement is in progress.
- Administrative/biographical history:
- Nové Hrady was a non-royal town founded in the 13th century, belonging to the local castle. The municipal community developed a self-government of its own which was supported by the nobility through various privileges (the right to hold markets, etc.). Nové Hrady became an important centre of the Czech-Austrian border area. In 1850-1949 the town was the seat of the district court, in 1865-1928 it was the seat of the district council and in 1855-1868 it was the seat of the Bezirksamt (political and judicial District Office).

- System of arrangement:
- During the arrangement of 1962 the fonds was divided into two parts-that before 1850 and that after 1850. Each part was divided into the following groups: I. Charters, II. Books, III. Files, IV. Accounting material. For the period after 1850 the I. Charters group is missing. The fonds is currently being rearranged but the findings aids of the 1962 arrangement can still be used.
