- Scope and content:
- The fonds contains documents of the self-government of the town of Dolní Kounice. The Jewish town fell under this before 1848 and again after 1919. Prior to 1850, Jews appear in individual entries of the land registry. Of the later documents, the following will be of particular interest: Jewish community - electoral issues from 1907-1909; refugees from Galicia 1914-1916, 1919; domicile certificates 1908-1942; lists of people admitted to the community from the first half of the 20th century; school issues 1903-1905 (the merging of school districts of the Christian and Jewish communities); applications for residence permits of Jews, among others, from 1941-1945. Documents relating to Jews can likely also be found in other parts of the fonds not listed here.
- Archival history:
- The documents were originally stored at the town hall. They were gradually transferred to the State District Archives Brno-Country in 1976, 1981, 1983 and 1985. In 2011 the fonds was arranged for the last time.
- Administrative/biographical history:
- The first mention of Dolní Kounice can be found in a fake document dating back to 1173. In the 14th century it became a town and later the centre of a manor. A Jewish settlement had probably been there from the Middle Ages. In the Early Modern Era, there was a large Jewish community in the town. Since 1849, Dolní Kounice was an autonomous municipality with which the Jewish political community was not associated until 1919. In 1850-1855 and 1868-1869, it fell under the political district of Hustopeče, in 1855-1868 under the political district of Židlochovice and in 1869-1949 under the political district of Brno (Brno-Country).
