- The fonds contains documents of the Civil and Criminal District Court Ivančice and its successor, the District Court Rosice. It is important for the Jewish history mainly due to probate and inheritance files (call number D, later IV and then again D) from 1850-1897 and 1915-1948, recording inheritance procedures concerning the deceased persons, including those of Jewish descent, and guardianship files (call number E, later P) concerning guardianship and assets administration of minors, illegitimate children or people legally incapacitated due to illness or alcoholism. These documents are of great importance for the Jewish genealogy and the study of people's social or financial situations. The relevant information may also be found in the list of deaths from 1850-1888 (3), the list of testaments from 1855-1866 (1), and the list of inheritance files from 1898-1945, or in a variety of civil and criminal cases heard by this court, and in documents concerning registration of land property, especially land books and collections of documents concerning land books.
- Archival history:
- The files were stored in the building of the creator, from where the oldest documents (dating from before 1897) were taken over in 1942 by the Moravian Archives in Brno, where they were arranged in 1957. In 1965, the fonds was transferred to the State District Archives Brno-Country, based in Rajhrad, where further acquisitions were gradually stored too.
- Administrative/biographical history:
- The District Court in Ivančice (Eibenschitz in German) was established in 1850. It functioned there with minor changes of its territorial jurisdiction until 1949 when it was transferred to Rosice. The jurisdiction of this court applied, throughout its existence, to the Jewish political community of Ivančice and since 1869 also to the Jewish political community of Dolní Kounice.
