- The fonds comprises documents from the Municipality of Drnholec, including a register of Jewish stalls at annual fairs from 1808-1860. It is possible that material relevant to Jewish history can also be found in the voluminous correspondence of the market town from the period of 1851-1944, which is chronologically arranged and for which no detailed aid exists.
- Archival history:
- The written documents of the market town of Drnholec were originally stored at the town hall. In 1868 the files were divided into 30 material groups. However, the classification of files into material groups was not consistent, e.g. there is a separate range of correspondence from the period of 1851-1944. In 1958 the fonds was transferred to the District State Archives in Mikulov, where it was arranged and inventoried in 1965. Because this arrangement was inadequate for today's requirements, in 2014 the fonds was designated an unarranged fonds and it will be arranged again.
- Administrative/biographical history:
- Drnholec (Dürnholz in German) is first mentioned in a falsified document claiming to be from 1046. After 1350 it was within the property of various noble houses. It was a market town from the 14th century, and from 1848 an independent political community. No Jewish community ever existed here, though individual Jewish families lived here at various time periods. In the period of 1850-1960, the market town of Drnholec belonged to the political district of Mikulov and the judicial district of Mikulov.
