- Scope and content:
- The archival material covers the period starting when Hynek Spiro, a Jewish businessman, started to run a paper production business and ending when a later major joint-stock company was nationalised. The importance of the fonds lies primarily in the valuable documenting of the development of the paper industry in the region of Český Krumlov. For the study of Jewish history, the following files will be of particular interest: records of the activities of the company owners (the Spiro family) in the management of a major paper factory until 1940, the financial accounts of Jewish shareholders of the company for the period of 1925-1934, the correspondence concerning the insuring of the jewellery of Elsa and Rita Spira from 1935, the correspondence regarding the dividends and pensions of Elsa Spira from 1941 and 1942, and the photographs of the Spiro family members and family real estates.
- Archival history:
- The documents included in the fonds Paper Mills of Pečkovský mlýn-Štýrský mlýn, a. s., Větřní, were, after the nationalisation of the joint-stock company, temporarily kept in various locations within the factory premises in Větřní (mostly in unsuitable places such as the attics). In the early 1960s, the documents, having been damaged in the meantime, were concentrated in the newly created enterprise archive of the Jihočeské papírny Větřní, n.p., where they were partly arranged in 1962 and 1963. In 2000-2008, the archival material was taken over by the České Budějovice branch of the Regional State Archives in Třeboň.
- Administrative/biographical history:
- In 1861, Jewish businessman Hynek Spiro bought an old paper mill in Český Krumlov. As part of the reorganisation and modernisation of the mill Spiro bought the lands of Pečkovský mlýn in 1867 where the entire production was subsequently transferred. Gradually, a paper company of Central European importance was built there. The management of company was taken over in 1894 by the founder's sons, Ludvík and Emanuel. After their death, the company was transformed into a joint stock company in 1929. The heyday of the family company came to an end after the annexation of the Czech borderland by the Nazi Germany in October 1938. As part of anti-Jewish measures, the Spiros' property was confiscated and the factory was merged with the Austrian paper mill in Steyer. After the war, the nationalised company became the basis of the national enterprise Jihočeské papírny ve Větřní u Českého Krumlova.

- System of arrangement:
- The fonds is divided, according to a provisional arrangement carried out in 1962 and 1963, into three periods: 1861-1929, 1929-1941 and 1941-1945). The provisional list of documents is very sketchy and often does not match the actual contents of the storage units. The archival material of the fonds was added to, while being still in the enterprise archive, with additions that were not regularly recorded in the lists.
