- The fonds of the Public Prosecutor of Cheb has only been preserved with a lot of gaps. In particular the agenda with ref. St and Tlz has been preserved, especially after 1918. For the study of Jewish history the journals ref. St will be of particular interest; they contain documents on growing antisemitic provocation and attacks in 1933-1938, in particular the following records: box № 65, call № St 5180/33 (antisemitic demonstration in Karlovy Vary), box №. 83, call № St 3320/35 (damage to the Jewish cemetery in Lázně Kynžvart), box № 92, call № St 1697/36 (applications by Jews from the German Reich for acceptance in the domicile union in Czechoslovakia), box № 111, call № St 2133/38 (antisemitic incident in Schönbach of 27 April 1938), box № 114, call № St 3731-3732/38 (antisemitic attack in Lauterbach of 1 September 1938), box № 115, call № St 3938-3939/38 (antisemitic attacks in Cheb on 11 and 12 September1938) and also files documenting Jewish suicides.
- Archival history:
- After dissolution of the Public Prosecutor’s office in Cheb in 1949, its registry was handed over to the District Public Prosecutor in Cheb. From there, files from 1963 were handed over to the State Archives in Kadaň, later the branch of the State Archives in Plzeň in Žlutice. There, the files were arranged on an ongoing basis, but no approved finding aids has been created yet and the whole fonds has not been subject to archival arrangement. Since 2006, the fonds has been kept at the State Regional State Archives in Plzeň in Klášter near Nepomuk.
- Administrative/biographical history:
- The Public Prosecutor in Cheb was an office of public prosecution. It performed its activity in from 1850 to 1949 with a hiatus during 1938-1945, when it was transformed into the Public Prosecutor attached to the Reichs Regional Court in Cheb. It participated in preparation of investigation of crimes and offences and in main court hearings. After 1945, the Public Prosecutor in Cheb was renewed, this being until January 1949, when it was dissolved, similarly to the Provincial Court in Cheb, as part of the so-called lay judiciary approach.
