- Scope and content:
- The fonds comprises records of the administration of the estate of Tachov. Most of the archival records stored in the fonds comes from the time when the estate was owned by the family of Windischgrätz (1785-1945). For the study of Jewish history, the following files will be of particular interest: inv. No. 462 - The Jewish land book for 1 Jewish Street and 2 Jewish Street in Tachov from 1786-1883; inv. No. 576 - An elenchus to the files relating to Jewish matters from 1788-1832; inv. No. 674 - Patents from 1717-1728 (including Jewish matters); inv. No. 678 - Jewish matters (privileges, instructions, the synagogue building, etc.) from 1729-1847. Records concerning the Jewish population can also be expected in other land registers and probably in the files, too (especially in matters of lease).
- Archival history:
- In 1947, the documents were transferred from the High Office in Tachov and Světce to the State Regional Agricultural Archives in Horšovský Týn. In 1952, they were relocated to Kladruby, then in 1959 to the Klatovy branch of the State Archives in Plzeň, and finally, in 2008, to the Klášter branch of the State Regional Archives in Plzeň.
- Administrative/biographical history:
- The first records of Tachov date from the first half of the 12th century. Probably in the 1270s there arose a royal town that was the centre of an extensive feudal administration. Over the centuries, the estate of Tachov was often in possession of noble families and its property development was rather complicated. Since 1785, the manor was owned by the Windischgrätz family. In 1945 it was confiscated by the Czechoslovak state. Until 1850, the manorial office pursued the economic management of the estate and on the basis of delegated powers it also functioned as the lowest instance of state administration. After 1850, the management of the estate mainly dealt with economic issues.
