- Scope and content:
- The fonds includes archival records of the administration of the estate of Bečov. Most of the archival records stored in the fonds comes from the time when the estate was owned by the Beaufort-Spontin family (1813-1945). Issues of Jewish history extending to the period after 1848 can be found in two Jewish books: book No. 282 - Jewish land book from 1794 to 1884 and book No. 283 - book of seats in the Bečov synagogue from 1828-1873. Records related to the Jewish population can also be expected in other land books and probably among the files, too (especially those concerning the matters of lease). The fonds also includes earlier archival records concerning the history of Jews: book No. 281 - Jewish land book from 1608-1825, and files about the dispute of Bečov Jews with the town of Bečov about slaughter and sale of meat from 1771-1777 (call No. 40, box No. 60).
- Archival history:
- The archive of the estate was stored in the castle of Bečov. From there it was transferred, in 1950, to the State Regional Agricultural Archives in Horšovský Týn. In 1959 the archival records were moved to Klášterec nad Ohří where there was a branch of the former State Archives of Kadaň. The fonds was then transferred to the Žlutice branch of the State Archives in Plzeň in 1969, and finally, in 2006, to the Klášter branch of the State Regional Archives in Plzeň.
- Administrative/biographical history:
- The first records of Bečov date from the 14th century. Then the manor of Bečov went through a complex property development. After a number of previous owners, it had been, since 1813, in the possession of the Beaufort-Spontin family who owned it until 1945 when it was confiscated by the Czechoslovak state. Until 1850, the manorial office performed the economic administration of the manor and at the same time it worked as the lowest instance of the state administration on the basis of delegated powers. After 1850, the administration of the estate mainly concerned economic issues.
