- The fonds contains archival records from the activity of the Chamber of Commerce and Trade with data about economic, social and political circumstances in the north-west of Bohemia. Most of the office’s original registry has been preserved. The most valuable documents are in particular constituted by the trade registers, also the general registry from 1850-1938 and 1945-1948 and from the period 1938-1945 as well as the registry documenting proprietary and structural changes to industry and trade in the German Sudetenland with a view to the Second World War and its course and to intervention from the outside (including “Aryanisation” of Jewish property). For the study of Jewish history, the following files will be of particular interest: inv. № 305, box № 10 (Creation of industry in the chamber’s circuit, questionnaire survey by the chamber for individual enterprises, 1924-1927), inv. № 316-318, call № 12211-12212, box № 13-18 (Minutes of plenary and committee meetings of the chamber in Cheb, 1932-1943, Minutes of meetings of the board of the chamber, 1939-1944, Brief reports of the chamber, 1940-1942), inv. № 559, call № 2010, box № 120 (De-Jewification, industrial and other enterprises, individual cases, 1939-1945). Special attention must be paid to register books: inv. № 126-150 (Trade register by trades, 1914-1944), inv. № 151-156 (Register of trade associations in the circuit of the Regional Court in Cheb, 1873-1909), inv. № 157-159 (Register of trade associations in the circuit of the Regional Court in Most, 1894-1911), inv. № 160-183 (Register of trade associations in the circuit of the Chamber of Commerce and Trade in Cheb, 1903-1947).
- Archival history:
- In 1953, documents of the dissolved chamber were taken to the Regional Archives in Loket and a year later to the State Archives in Kadaň. After its dissolution, the whole fonds was moved to the Žlutice branch of the State Archives in Plzeň, from where it was relocated in 2006 to the office of the Regional State Archives in Plzeň in Klášter near Nepomuk. In 1954-1961, the fonds was arranged and an inventory was created in 1961.-
- Administrative/biographical history:
- The Chamber of Commerce and Trade in Cheb existed in 1850-1938 and 1945-1948. In the interim period its activity was performed by the Chamber of Industry and Commerce Cheb (1938-1943), the Chamber of Craftsmen Cheb (1938-1943) and the Cheb Branch of the Regional Chamber of Commerce Liberec (1943-1945). This was an important economic institute in the region of northwest Bohemia. Its territorial sphere of competence corresponded to the wards of the Regional Courts in Cheb and Most.
