- Scope and content:
- The fonds contains archival records with valuable data about economic, social, political and religious circumstances in the Plzeň region. For the investigation of Jewish history, the commercial register files, or the commercial and association registers of the Regional Court in Plzeň will be especially useful, in particular the following individual files: № 237–238 (Commercial record, 1856–1863), book № 239 (Index for commercial protocol, 1856–1858) and box № 335–342, call № XI (Registration of companies, 1855–1897) and in the non-inventoried part of the fonds, incremental registers ref. Firm and the respective file material to go with it. Apart from the companies’ agenda, attention should also be paid to criminal files ref. Tk and Tlz. Both of these file references contain a lot of documents documenting the antisemitic mood in society before 1945. This in particular concerns antisemitic provocation in the territory of the Sudetenland (Všeruby u Plzně, Stod, Horšovský Týn, Poběžovice etc.), e.g. files ref. Tk 926/31, 433/33, 944/33, 1398/35, 1750/35 and others.
- Archival history:
- Files of the Regional Court in Plzeň were appraised on an ongoing basis on a large scale, so particularly the oldest part of the registry was very notably reduced through this intervention. The greatest transfer of archival records took place in 1944, when the archive took over registry finding aids and file material from 1850-1895. Part of the fonds was subject to archival arrangement in 1961. The judicial registry after 1897 was gradually added to the archive in terms of further appraisal proceedings. To date, only a small part of these has been subject to archival arrangement, this being the actual judicial criminal agenda from 1924-1949, which was arranged and inventoried in 2012.
- Administrative/biographical history:
- The Regional Court in Plzeň was established in 1850 in relation to new organisation of the judiciary in June 1849. In 1928 its official circuit was reduced due to creation of the Regional Court in Klatovy. In September 1938, as a result of the events in Munich and detachment of part of the Czechoslovak borderlands, the judicial districts of Dobřany, Horšovský Týn, Hostouň, Poběžovice, Stod, Stříbro and Touškov were removed from the court’s circuit, these being affiliated to the Land Court in Cheb. Once the Second World War ended the territorial sphere of competence of the court returned to the status from 1938. After dissolution of the Regional Court in Klatovy in 1949, its official circuit was also attached to the Regional Court in Plzeň.

- System of arrangement:
- From the entirety of archival records in the fonds of the Regional Court in Plzeň, just under half has been arranged and just under a fifth has been inventoried. Most of the preserved archival records from the period until 1897 have been inventoried and also the proper judicial criminal agenda from 1924-1949. Part of the Judicial registry is accessible via provisional lists, unauthorised internal aids or card indices. Only handover lists of the creator have been processed for certain parts. Despite this, thanks to the above-mentioned lists, searching the fonds can be performed relatively successfully.
