- Scope and content:
- The fonds contains important sources regarding development of Moravian provincial self-government and for various cultural, medical, economic and social problems of the land from the level of the manor through to a land-wide framework. It also contains important information on progress in development of taxes collected in Moravia in the 17th and 18th centuries. Jewish issues before 1848 specifically relate to a ban on Jews producing potash 1741 and a ban on rental of distilleries to Jews 1785-1786. There is also overlap into the monitored period by call number J 5 Jews 1628–1861 (3 boxes), which contain sources regarding the Jewish population of Moravia from a land-wide perspective. Attention should also be paid to files about deliveries to the army, among others the supplier Haas 1803.
- Archival history:
- Documents in this fonds were stored from the early modern period in the registry office of the Moravian Provincial Diet initially as part of the secretariat, from 1715 as an independent department with the registrar, when files were first handled. Further handling from 1753-1754 according to subject call numbers remained valid de facto until 1874. A lot of documents were destroyed during internal appraisal proceedings in 1784, 1846, 1861 and 1864. Nobility files were separated from the fonds, as were declarations towards the province and diet files, which today constitute separate fonds. The fonds was taken into the Moravian Provincial Archives in 1907 and an interim list was subsequently drawn up for it. Various accounting documents from the 17th and 18th century were incorporated in the fonds (so-called minor fonds of provincial registry offices). The fonds is kept in its current arrangement, but a modern inventory is lacking.
- Administrative/biographical history:
- The Moravian Provincial Diet, in its capacity as the Supreme Estates Authority, operated in Moravia starting in the Middle Ages. After the Battle of White Mountain in 1620, its sphere of authority was restricted by the ruler, but it did retain its authority in the field of taxation and economics. To exercise its powers, the Diet established various committees-a permanent Provincial Council was established in 1686 which was the actual creator of the fonds. It was briefly dissolved in 1784-1791 and reorganised in 1848. In 1861, after issuance of the February Patent, a constitutional Provincial Council was elected, the documents of which were stored in this fonds until 1874. The remaining documents are in fonds A 9 Provincial Council.
