- Archival history:
- Documents from the District Court in Brno - vnitřní město (Inner City) were kept on file until 1938 in the registry of the court (and/or its legal successors), from where they were transferred along with documents from the district courts in Brno - dolní předměstí (Lower Suburb) and Brno - horní předměstí (Upper Suburb) to the Moravian Provincial Archives in Brno. There the documents were handled with documents from the delegated municipal district civil court from 1855-1897 in one whole set as fonds C 18 and files of section II of the District Court in Brno - vnitřní město (Inner City) as fonds C10. In 1961, 1967 and 1970, these documents were transferred to the Brno municipal archive, where in 1973 the documents of three district courts from 1850 to 1855 were separated from handling of the fonds of the delegated municipal district civil court and inventoried as 4 fonds - the District Court in Brno - vnitřní město (Inner City), section I, the District Court in Brno - vnitřní město (Inner City), section II, the District Court in Brno - horní předměstí (Upper Suburb) and the District Court in Brno - dolní předměstí (Lower Suburb). Additions to the fonds were attached to them in 1995. In 2008 the documents of these three Brno district courts were returned to the Moravian Provincial Archives, where again in 2009 they were re-inventoried, and sections I and II of the District Court in Brno - vnitřní město (Inner City) were combined.
- Administrative/biographical history:
- In connection with the abolition of servitude in 1848 the judicial system of the Austrian monarchy was reorganised. Patrimonial, criminal, mercantile, exchange and noble courts ceased to exist, and a uniform judicial system was developed with a three-instance principle. The new organisation of the court system in Moravia and Silesia was set by a law from June 1849. In Brno, three district courts were set up: Brno - vnitřní město (Inner City), Brno - horní předměstí (Upper Suburb) and Brno - dolní předměstí (Lower Suburb). The District Court in Brno - vnitřní město was further divided into 2 sections - besides routine civil and criminal agendas, it also specialised in Estate Books for the whole of Moravia and Silesia and in land registers for all three mentioned judicial districts. The judicial district of Brno - vnitřní město was limited by the territory of the former royal national capital city of Brno inside city walls, including Petrov and Špilberk. This organisation lasted until April 1855, when based on orders from ministers two delegated municipal district courts were established with jurisdiction for the new judicial districts of Brno - město (City) and Brno - okolí (Surroundings).
