- Scope and content:
- The collection contains parchment and paper charters. The verified duplicate of the charter of the tanners' guild of Prague's New Town from 1651 about a prohibition on trade in hides with Jews concerns the history of the Jews from the oldest period, as does the foundation’s charter of Eva and Aron Goldschmidt for 4000 florins for poor pupils in Mikulov from 1657, original of foundation’s charter issued on 22 October 1840 in Frankfurt am Main, Solomon Baron Rothschild had established a foundation of 4000 florins for poor brides in Brno, and debt consent of Samuel Eisenmann from Velké Meziříčí for a loan of 600 gulden from the Jewish provincial fund. The list of the collection also gives the information that the Eskeles foundation charter was appended to the file of the Provincial Office in 1931, Also noteworthy is the document of Marie Rosálie, Baroness Sonnenfels, née Gayerová, from 1807 regulating the conditions of the foundation established on 10 May 1803 by the will of her deceased husband, František Antonín, Baron Sonnenfels, brother of Josef von Sonnenfels.
- Archival history:
- After 1636 the supreme land governing offices in Moravia kept in a special unit the original parchment and paper charters that these institutions had taken over either on an ad hoc basis or which constituted annexes to the files. In this way a collection of 168 charters from 1324–1888 of varying provenance and historical value was created. The collection has two parts. The first part contains charters taken over by the Moravian Provincial Archives in 1907 along with the other files of the provincial government (governorate) and additions from 1944, which includes primarily documents of dissolved monasteries, certain foundation and guild charters and others. The second part consists of a collection of charters of ancillary offices of the governorship containing primarily foundation charters. Remnants were taken over by the archives from this second part of the collection in 1944. In 1946 the charters were registered, and in 1957 an index of them was drawn up and augmented.
- Administrative/biographical history:
- The creator of the collection are the supreme provincial governing offices in Moravia. 1636-1748 Moravian Royal Tribunal (office of Moravian Provincial Head Office), sometimes also called the (Moravian) Provincial Government (Governorate); 1748-1749 Royal Deputation; from 1749 Royal Representation and Chamber, which in 1763 was renamed the Moravian Provincial Government (Governorate); from 1783 Moravian-Silesian Provincial Government (Governorate); from 1849 the Moravian Viceregency.
