- Archival history:
- The beginnings of the Slavkov archive merge with the chateau archive of the Kaunitz family kept at the Slavkov chateau. In 1910-1912 the archival records were taken from the Slavkov chateau to the Moravian Provincial Archives in Brno. The rest of the documents were taken in 1950 to the Agricultural-Forestry Archives in Bučovice, from where they transferred to the Moravian Provincial Archives in Brno in 1953, where they were arranged in 1956. Other documents were attached to all the Slavkov archival records, and in 1979 they were re-arranged and inventoried.
- Administrative/biographical history:
- Slavkov, originally belonging to territorial lords, belonged to an order of German knights back in the 13th century. In 1525 the Kaunitz family became the owners of the Slavkov manor. After the Moravian branch of the Kaunitz family died out in the mid-19th century, the manor passed to the Bohemian branch of the family. The death of Dr. Eugen Kaunitz in 1919 was followed by a dispute about the manor lasting several years, until it was gained by Josef Pálffy in 1923. After 1945 the Slavkov estate was confiscated, placed under national administration and later taken over by the state. On the territory of the manor there were large Jewish communities in Slavkov u Brna and Rousínov.
