- Archival history:
- After the dissolution of the Schools Section in 1939, its registry was taken over by the Central Registry. However, a large part of the Section’s fonds was destroyed by a fire during the 1944 and 1945 war operations. Nevertheless some files survived and after the liberation of Brno were taken over by the Brno City Archives. They were arranged in 1993.
- Administrative/biographical history:
- In 1870 the City of Brno established a council for German and burgher lower secondary schools, with the Schools Section as the city authority in charge. From 1906 on, it dealt only with administrative and economic affairs of Czech and German schools. In 1907 the District School Council was split into a Czech and a German part, but the Schools Section continued to function independently. In 1921 the two national parts of the District School Council were merged with the Schools Section into a single entity named the Section of Schools. However, in 1923 the institution was again split into a Czech and German School Councils which had the function of district councils, and a Schools Section which administered other school affairs. After the 1939 Nazi Occupation these bodies were superseded by a German School Bureau and the Schools Section was dissolved as a result.
