- Scope and content:
- The fonds contains a 1753 manorial privilege for the Jews of Horažďovice, the statutes of the Jewish Religious Community of Horažďovice, including their amendments (1875–1902), election records, personnel records, financial records, registers of synagogue seats, documents relating to the rebuilding of the local synagogue, and documents of the burial society (chevra kadisha). The community's records end in about 1939; its cash book was kept until 1942. A document permitting the establishment of a cemetery (1723) and a death register have been preserved for the affiliated community of Slatina. The fonds also includes the Familiantenbuch (register of Familiants) from Podhůří u Nepomuku (1785).
- Archival history:
- The records were incorporated into the archives of the Jewish Museum in Prague during the Second World War as part of shipments of material from Jewish religious communities that had been disbanded. Both privileges were part of the Jewish Museum´s collections already before the WWII.
- Administrative/biographical history:
- Jewish settlement in Horažďovice is documented from the start of the 17th century. A Jewish religious community was established there in the mid-17th century. The community was expanded in 1932, when it incorporated the area of the disbanded Jewish Religious Community of Nepomuk. The community was disbanded by the Nazis during the Second World War and did not subsequently resume its activities.
