- Administrative/biographical history:
- Emanuel (Mendel) Singer (1846–1929) was an imperial councillor and journalist. He was born in Bzenec, Moravia, then moved to Vienna with his brothers at the beginning of the 1870s. He was among the leading figures of Austrian journalism in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. For many years he served as parliamentary correspondent for the newspaper Neues Wiener Tagblatt. He gained considerable popularity as a result of his literary and observational talents. He had contacts with a number of politicians and received many awards. He became an imperial councillor, received the prestigious Order of the Iron Crown (3rd class) and was awarded a noble title (Edler von Singer) by Franz Joseph I on 28 October 1912.
