- Administrative/biographical history:
- The first lodge of B'nai B'rith was founded in 1843 in the USA by German Jewish immigrants in order to help German Jews integrate into American society. The first lodge in Europe was founded in Berlin in 1882. The first lodge in the Czech lands was established in the 1890s. The Austrian District (X.) was established in 1894 with the seat in Prague. The task of the Austrian lodges was to promote science and arts and relieve poverty of the poor and those in need. In 1911-1918 the seat of the Austrian district was moved to Vienna. With the emergence of Czechoslovakia after the World War One, the Austrian district was split. The Czech and Moravian lodges had more members as well as assets.
