- Administrative/biographical history:
- The Renaissance-style High Synagogue was commissioned by Mordecai Maisel in the latter half of the 16th century. The building was linked to the Jewish Town Hall. It was extended after a fire in 1689 and building alterations were carried out by the architect J. M. Wertmüller in 1883. It was used by the Central Jewish Museum during the Second World War and was renovated after the war. After 1950 it was used by the Jewish Museum in Prague as an exhibition venue. The building underwent several restorations, the last being in 1994–1996. Since 1997 it has once again served as a place of worship for the Prague Jewish community.
