- Scope and content:
- The fonds contains the statutes and a register of members of the Association for the Founding of a Synagogue of the Israelite Religious Community in Žižkov, and fragmentary files of the Jewish Religious Community of Žižkov.
- Archival history:
- The records were sent to the archives of the Jewish Museum in Prague during the Second World War as part of shipments of material from Jewish religious communities that had been disbanded.
- Administrative/biographical history:
- There was sporadic Jewish settlement in Žižkov as early as the 18th century (particularly after the expulsion of Jews from Prague), rapidly increasing in size after the middle of the 19th century. A prayer association was established there in 1888, becoming a religious community after 1890. The community was disbanded by the Nazis during the Second World War and did not subsequently resume its activities.
