- The fonds contains files relating to the founding of the Jewish Religious Community of České Budějovice, meeting minutes, election records, personnel files, registry records, records related to the teaching of religion, official correspondence, financial records, construction-related files, a register of synagogue seats, fragmentary files of the burial society (chevra kadisha), and fragmentary files of several Jewish associations. The cash book of the burial society (chevra kadisha) ends in 1940.
- Archival history:
- The records were incorporated into the archives of the Jewish Museum in Prague during the Second World War as part of shipments of material from Jewish religious communities that had been disbanded.
- Administrative/biographical history:
- A medieval Jewish settlement in České Budějovice came to an end in 1506, when the Jews were expelled from the town. The next Jewish settlement there dates from the mid-19th century. A Jewish community was established there in 1858 and its importance grew as its membership expanded. There were also a number of Jewish associations in the town. The community was disbanded by the Nazis during the Second World War but subsequently resumed its activities.
