- Archival history:
- The records came to the archives of the Jewish Museum in Prague during the Second World War as part of shipments of material from Jewish religious communities that had been disbanded.
- Administrative/biographical history:
- The first documented reference to the presence of Jews in Znojmo dates from 1052. The medieval Jewish settlement was disbanded after the expulsion of the Jews in 1454. It was not until before the middle of the 19th century that several Jewish families were allowed to resettle the town. A prayer association was established there in 1865, becoming a separate religious community in 1870. The community was disbanded after the annexation of the Sudetenland by Nazi Germany in 1938 but resumed its activities after the Second World War.
