- Archival history:
- The records were incorporated into the archives of the Jewish Museum in Prague during the Second World War as part of shipments of material from Jewish religious communities that had been disbanded.
- Administrative/biographical history:
- The earliest reliable record of Jewish settlement in Volyně dates from the first quarter of the 16th century. The Jewish community considerably expanded in size in the first half of the 19th century. A Jewish religious community existed there from the middle of the 17th century at the latest. It incorporated the communities of Hoštice and Dub at the end of the 19th century and in 1906 respectively. The area of the disbanded Jewish Religious Community of Vlachovo Březí was attached to that of the Volyně community in 1924. The Jewish Religious Community of Volyně was disbanded by the Nazis during the Second World War and did not subsequently resume its activities.
