- The fonds contains minutes of meetings, fragmentary files, financial registers, books/registers of the local synagogue and records of the burial society (chevra kadisha), as well as a graves register and financial books/registers and files of the associated community of Čichtice.
- Archival history:
- The records were incorporated into the archives of the Jewish Museum in Prague during the Second World War as part of shipments of material from Jewish religious communities that had been disbanded.
- Administrative/biographical history:
- Jewish settlement in Vodňany is documented from the 15th century. Jews were expelled from the town several times in the 16th and 17th centuries. It was not until the middle of the 19th century that the number of Jewish inhabitants significantly increased. A Jewish religious community existed there from the 18th century. It was disbanded by the Nazis during the Second World War and did not subsequently resume its activities.
