- Archival history:
- The records came to the archives of the Jewish Museum in Prague during the Second World War as part of shipments of material from Jewish religious communities that had been disbanded. A smaller set of preserved documents was already part of the collections of Jewish Museum in Prague before the war.
- Administrative/biographical history:
- The earliest reference to Jewish settlement in Teplice dates from the beginning of the 15th century. A prominent Jewish community was in existence there by the end of the 16th century, from which time the number of Jewish inhabitants continued to rise. Teplice was the seat of the regional rabbinate in the 18th–19th centuries. A Jewish spa institute/hospital was established there in the first half of the19th century. Teplice had the second largest Jewish community in Bohemia. The community was disbanded after the annexation of the Sudetenland by Nazi Germany in 1938 but resumed its activities after the Second World War.
