- Archival history:
- The records were incorporated into the archives of the Jewish Museum in Prague during the Second World War as part of shipments of material from Jewish religious communities that had been disbanded.
- Administrative/biographical history:
- Jewish settlement in Písek probably existed from the end of the 14th century. Jews were expelled from the town in 1424. Another small settlement there is documented from the 17th century, but it was not until the latter half of the 19th century that it expanded. A religious community was in existence there from 1785, probably belonging to the town of Mirotice. A new Jewish community came into being in the middle of the 19th century. It was disbanded by the Nazis during the Second World but subsequently resumed its activities.
