- Administrative/biographical history:
- A medieval Jewish settlement in Opava is documented from the end of the 13th century. It came to an end during the 16th century, when the Jews were expelled from the town. A new Jewish prayer association was established there in the middle of the 19th century, becoming a religious community in 1864. The community was disbanded after the annexation of the Sudetenland by Nazi Germany in 1938 but resumed its activities after the Second World War.
