- Administrative/biographical history:
- Jews settled in Bremgarten from the late Middle Ages until the end of the 16th century. Then, for about 250 years, no Jews lived there. After 1848, when Jews were gradually granted freedom of settlement, the small industrial town of Bremgarten became a place of business and residence for many Jews. In the 1860s they founded an "Israelite Cultusgenossenschaft” [Jewish religious association]. From around 1900 until the conversion in the 1990s, the synagogue was established on the top floor of the residential building at Antonigasse 14. Due to emigration, the Jewish community today has only a few members.
