The collection contains a variety of documents such as diary extracts, school essays, letters with school friends 1930-1936 as well as reactions to the ‘Jüdische Selbstkritik’ (Jewish self-criticism) ("Fall Zipkes"), Archiv für jüdische Geschichte und Kunst in der Schweiz 1947-1957. It also includes Zipkes’s dissertation, legal works and other writings such as “Jüdische Selbstkritik, von Wesen und Politik des jüdischen Volkes” (1941), "Ist Gottesraum in Gottes Volk?“ (1945), "Leben und Wirken der Sängerin Adele Bloch-Zipkes” (Life and work of the singer Adele Bloch-Zipkes) (1996), “Gelebtes Leben, Judesein in einer weltoffenen Zeit” (Lived life, being Jewish in a cosmopolitan time) (2005) as well as various articles on Jewish topics, articles in newspapers and magazines. There are also short prose writings until 1930, testimonies for political demands and reflection 1937-1940, draft articles on Jewish topics and on wartime 1943-1945, “Juden und Inder, die Völker der letzten Entscheidung” (Jews and Indians, the peoples of the last decision, 1946), notes on Robert Jungk, lectures, etc.
The collection also includes correspondence with Elazar Ben-Yoetz, Saly Braunschweig, Walter Robert Corti, Florence Guggenheim, Hermann Levin Goldschmidt, Fritz Hochwälder, Robert Levi, Franz Mannheimer, Hugo Marx, Hilde Salomonis, Hans Konrad Sonderegger, Manfred Sturmann, Margarete Susman, Theodor Weisz, Artur Wolffers and others. It also holds contains concerning Max Ettinger, Recha Freier, Hermann Levin Goldschmidt, Jeanne Hersch, Hermann Keyserling, Arnold Künzli, Hermann Maas, Eugen Messinger and Roger Sidler. There are also files on the trial of Servettaz against Haymann in 1938, questions of Judaism and antisemitism 1935-1982 (press clippings), European Judaism and the USA in 1945, Communist antisemitism (Prague trial 1952/1953 and others), Christian-Jewish task force 1948-1984, Germans and Jews and others.

- The collection was transferred to the AfZ (Archives of Contemporary History) in several deliveries between 1981 and 2013.
- Administrative/biographical history:
- Rudolf Zipkes, a senior clerk at the Zurich Cantonal Court, was born in Zurich on 28 April 1911 and died on 3 April 2013 in Zurich. Zipkes earned his doctorate in Zurich and was appointed law clerk and substitute at the District Court of Zurich in 1934. In 1949/50 he was president of the "Archive for Jewish History and Art" in Zurich. He also was a board member of the "Jewish Association Zurich" and author of various articles in the Zurich press as well as of two writings on Judaism, literary and astrological issues.
