- The collection mainly comprises biographical and pictorial documents. Particularly worthy of mention are the private letters of Ruth von Wild to her parents, the personal album from the children's colony in Pringy and the album of over 600 photographs of her work as director of the children's home in Brüngsberg. The collection is an important supplement to other bequests of former employees of the “Kinderhilfe” (children's aid association) preserved in the AfZ, including Friedel Bohny-Reiter, Elisabeth Eidenbenz, Anne-Marie Im Hof-Piguet, Elsbeth Kasser, Elsa Lüthi-Ruth and Emma Ott.
- Archival history:
- The estate of Ruth von Wild was donated to the AfZ (Archives of Contemporary History) by her sister Helen Loo-von Wild in 2010 and 2011. The donation was arranged by Helena Kanyar Becker who provided the material for the publication “Vergessene Frauen. Humanitäre Kinderhilfe und offizielle Flüchtlingspolitik 1917-1948”. Helen Loo-von Wild enabled the AfZ to make copies of the correspondence to her parents, Ernst and Helene von Wild, as well as the personal album from the children's home in Brüngsberg. The originals remain in her possession. The archive of the von Wild family is kept at the Bürgerbibliothek Bern.
- Administrative/biographical history:
- Ruth von Wild, a refugee assistant, was born in Barcelona on 3 August 1912 and died in Bern on 26 April 1983. She was the daughter of Ernst and Helene, née Güder, and had two siblings named Rudolf and Helen. In 1929/1930, she attended the boarding school "Institution Morave pour jeunes filles" in Montmirail-Neuchâtel, earned a teacher's diploma of the University of Neuchâtel in 1933 and started teaching at the Swiss School in Barcelona. At the beginning of the Spanish Civil War, the school was closed and Wild moved to England where she obtained a language diploma. In August 1938, she returned to Barcelona and worked for the Swiss Association for Spanish Children (SAS). In 1939, she headed the children's colony "Le Lac" in Hameau-du-Lac near Sigean (France). In August 1940, Wild took over the management of the children's colony of Talloires (France) and from November 1940 to June 1946, she acted as director of the orphanage in Pringy (France).
