The collection contains documents concerning Christiane Uhlig’s research on contemporary witnesses. It was created between 2006 and 2010.
It includes interviews with contemporary witnesses such as Margot Brandeis-Berg, Reine Caulet-Guetta, Denise Cisier-Bladt, Michel Elkaïm, Susan Ferenz-Schwarz, Ruth Finkel, Victor Gani, Bettina Girsberger, Walter Gut, Katia Guth, Gabor Hirsch, Werner Hönigsberg, Kurt Hutschneker, Marx Levy, Jean-Pierre Metzger, Danielle Morris, Fanny Neeman, Jakob Neufeld, Sophie Neufeld, Isidor Pugatsch, Peter Stein, Ellen Ulmann, Ilse Wyler and Adam Zweig. Furthermore, there are photos of the interviewed persons, information about their biography and additional information about the interview. The interviews were conducted as part of an oral history project of the AfZ with a focus on contemporary Jewish history and as a supplement to the project Bildarchiv Schweizer Juden (BASJ). The 16 German-language interviews were conducted by Christiane Uhlig and Uriel Gast (Head of the Documentation Centre for Contemporary Jewish History at the AfZ). The eight French-language interviews were conducted by Daniela Hersch.
- Administrative/biographical history:
- Christiane Uhlig was born in Stuttgart on 18 July 1958. She studied history, Eastern European history and German Studies at the Universities of Tübingen and Zurich. She worked as a research assistant in the Department of Russian Cultural History at the University of St. Gallen (HSG) and in the Independent Commission of Experts Switzerland - Second World War (UEK). From 2000 to 2003, she was a staff member of the AfZ (Archives of Contemporary History) and from 2013 to 2017, a freelancer working for the AfZ on the establishment of the Bildarchiv Schweizer Juden (BASJ-Archiv) and project manager of the oral history project Life Stories of Jews in Switzerland (FD Christiane Uhlig). Uhlig has also worked as a freelance historian in Zurich, focusing on research in Eastern European, Jewish and Swiss History of the 19th and 20th centuries. She is author of several biographies of women and coauthor of numerous publications.
