- The collection contains a variety of documents, including foundation deeds, accounting documents, photos and reports on family days and holiday camps as well as from individual family members. It also includes administrative correspondence of the Foundation as well as correspondence among family members.
- Archival history:
- The Foundation's archives have been carefully managed for over a century and are particularly important from a genealogical and photographic point of view, possibly also as a supplement to the Picture Archive of Swiss Jews (AfZ BA BASJ Archive). Following the death of the archive director Robert Bernheim and the sale of the house where the archive was stored, the family archive was transferred to the AfZ (Archives of Contemporary History) through the mediation of René Braginsky.
- Administrative/biographical history:
- The Foundation was founded in 1901 on the occasion of the 80th birthday of Samuel Bollag by the youngest of his 13 children, Max Bollag, as the Samuel Bollag Foundation. On the occasion of its 25th anniversary in 1926, the Foundation was renamed the Samuel and Rahel Bollag Foundation. The headquarters remained in Liestal. The purpose of the Foundation is to provide financial assistance to needy descendants of Samuel and Rahel Bollag as well as covering the maintenance costs of the couple's graves for "eternity". An annual report has been published since 1926. A further concern of the Foundation is the cohesion of the extended family, which is why, at the request of founder Max Bollag, annual family days and, as required, children's holiday camps are held periodically. Over the years, the main activity of the foundation has expanded so that it is now also possible to support poor Orthodox family members with many children in Israel. Today, the family numbers about 550 members living in Switzerland, Israel, France, Argentina and other countries. The first president of the foundation was founder Max Bollag. After his death in 1943, his daughter, Elisabeth Bollag, took over the office, which she in turn held until her death in 1982. She was succeeded by Robert "Robi" Bernheim in 1983. Other presidents and their terms of office are not exactly clear from the inventory.
