The official collection of the laws, decisions and ordinances of the Canton of Zurich from 1803 to 2018 can be found in section Directorates and State Chancellery.
The oldest documents In the sub-division State Chancellery date back to the Napoleonic era and focus primarily on the possibilities for Jews from outside of Zurich to trade within the canton. There are also some documents concerning the right of establishment for Jews from the 1840s as well as numerous laws. For example, a law on the conditions of those persons who are in a commune where they are not citizens; from 1840, a law concerning amendments to the existing laws on education: from the same year, a law concerning market and traffic by commercial travellers from 1852, a law concerning the legal relationships of Jews from 1862, and a law concerning trade in general and crafts in particular from 9 May 1832.
There are also files from the 20th century that mainly deal with the discussion of absences of Jewish pupils on Jewish holidays and the Sabbath. These files cover the period between 1900 and 1968.

- Archival history:
- The collection was probably gradually transferred to the State Archive.
- Administrative/biographical history:
- The State Archive of Zurich is the archive of the Swiss Canton of Zurich and its legal predecessors, in particular the City State of Zurich. The historical holdings of the State Archive date back to the year 853 - the founding charter of the Fraumünster is the oldest surviving document - and have a significance that extends far beyond the canton. The continuity of tradition is considered remarkable, thanks to the absence of major catastrophes and wars. For example, the series of governmental minutes (Small Council and Grand Council), with few gaps, dates back to the early 14th century. The more recent holdings of the Canton of Zurich (since 1831) form the bulk of the archive holdings in terms of quantity, comprising some 30 kilometres of files and documents, to which a few terabytes of electronic data material are added.
