The Main Archive of the State Archive of Schwyz contains all files of the cantonal administration from before 1848, including isolated files of interest from a Jewish point of view. From 1817, there is an information document about a Jew from Lengnau about whom the Chancellery of Schwyz had requested information. There are also two interrogation records of relevance from the years 1810 and 1830. One interrogation from an 1810 protocol reports on the case of Jakob Schlesinger of Swandorf in Württemberg. The aldermen demanded more detailed information about Schlesinger's journey to Schwyz. The other interrogation protocol from 1830 reports on the case of Samson Löwenberger from Hechingen in Hohenzollern. Löwenberger had not stated his faith when he applied for a patent for peddling. Jews were forbidden to peddle in Schwyz.
From the period 1808 to 1830 there is a whole series entitled “Jews“. It contains, among other things, a letter from 1808 from the Federal Council to the Canton regarding the decree against the Jews in France and the position of the Jews in Switzerland, an excerpt from the statutes with a report on the investigation of the “all-too-large distribution of the Jews“ from the same year, a biography accompanying an excerpt from the protocol of this statute concerning Jews, a letter regarding the “intrusion” of foreign Jews into the canton, a letter concerning French Jews, a regulation for the Jews in Bern from 1809, new regulations for the Jews residing in Endingen and Lengnau, a restriction for Jews on market days combined with a ban on selling goods from the years 1826 to 1830, a letter concerning the position of the Jews from 1829 as well as a restriction for the Jews in Uri from 1830.
