- This collection contains several collections of pictures, photographs and negatives. In terms of Jewish history, it contains some interesting objects. In the collection of the photographer Hans Bertolf there is for example a photograph of the Jewish Community House in Basel from 1974 which displays a number of products from Israel as well as the appertaining document. The photo is available as a digital copy on the archive‘s website. There is also a lithograph and two photographs from 1870 showing Jews fleeing Alsace and a collotype from 1830 showing a Jew with a goat. The collection also includes a negative showing a revolt by Jewish men and women in Dürmenach, Alsace. - Archival history:
- The collections of this fonds came into the possession of the State Archive at different times.
- Administrative/biographical history:
- The oldest document in the State Archive, a monastery charter, dates back to 1098. The city archive was destroyed in the Basel earthquake of 1356. Since then, administrative activities have been closely preserved in most areas. The online archive catalogue offers numerous research options. Selected photographic and film documents as well as some 420,000 pages of written documents can be viewed online via the archive catalogue.
