The collection “Address books” is a non-Jewish collection with a significant number of documents related to Jewish points of interest.
The address books contain a lot of information about names and job designations of individual persons or families, companies, contractors, stores, offices, public authorities, organisations, churches, monasteries, rectories, schools, hospitals, doctors etc. They represent a useful reference for studies concerning the social structure of Innsbruck. Additionally, business lists are useful to comprehend the economic history of the city. Regarding the Jewish element in this collection, the address books are essential sources for the period of World War II, showing the last residences of Jewish people and other victims of National Socialism.
NB: It is necessary to search this collection by personal names as this is how it is arranged.
- Archival history:
- This collection was transferred to the City Archive as part of the regular document transfer process stipulated by national archival regulations. It no longer receives any accruals.
