The collection holds the records of all properties in Vorarlberg and the chronological history of these properties (i.e. when the owner sold it and the buyer sold it again and so forth) created during the Bavarian rule. It is useful for researching changes in ownership in the 19th century.
The collection is separated into six clusters. Geographically they are identical with the area of jurisdiction of the Landgerichte (district courts), which are Sonnenberg, Montafon, Feldkirch, Dornbirn, Bregenz and Innerbregenzerwald.
The files concerning the Jewish community of Hohenems are to be found in the collection of the Landgericht Dornbirn (Hohenems was part of the jurisdiction of the district court of Dornbirn) and cover the time span between 1808 and 1865. To find these records you must use the “Häuser- und Rustikalkataster für Hohenems Band 2” (register of the properties in Hohenems volume 2). There is a separate part for the Jewish house owners, called “Judengasse” (Jew alley). This register lists all members of the Jewish community who owned property in Hohenems in 1810. To track the buying-and-selling-history of these different properties one has to use the “Umschreibebücher” (books that note the buying and selling history of properties). There are three different volumes that date from 1808 to 1865.
- Archival history:
- The collection was acquired in 1920 and the register was created in 1933.
- Administrative/biographical history:
- The collection holds the records of all properties in Vorarlberg. The recording began during the time when Vorarlberg was part of the Kingdom of Bavaria. The Bavarians registered the ownership structure for tax reasons. After Vorarlberg became a part of the Austrian Empire once again, the Austrian administration continued the work of the Bavarians.

- Finding aids:
- There is only one finding aid online - the “Verzeichnis über den bayrischen Steuerkataster für Vorarlberg” (register of the Bavarian taxation register of Vorarlberg). This is a list of the existing registers that can be read in the archive itself. To find the records itself one has to visit the archive in Bregenz and use the “Häuser- und Rustikalkataster” (register of the properties) and the “Umschreibbücher” (books that note the buying and selling history of properties).
